Electrolysis dates back to 1875.

Yes.  Being a Registered Nurse, it is very important to me to up hold to the highest standard of asepsis. 

The probes that I use are disposable and are properly disposed of after each client.  I feel it is not worth the risk to  have the client store their own probe to be used for multiple treatments.

Electrolysis is the only form of PERMANENT hair removal approved by the FDA.  Laser hair removal is approved  for permanent hair reduction. 

A tiny probe is gently inserted into the hair follicle opening.  The skin is not punctured so there is no bleeding.  The  Electrologist then directs a split second pulse of heat in to the follicle cauterizing the tiny blood vessels that support  the hair growth.  And then the hair is lifted from the skin.

The time necessary to complete a particular problem area will depend on the severity of the problem, the cause of hair  growth, the type of hair (course  or fine) and the sensitivity of the client.  It is also important that I am able to treat  the hair just as it is coming through the skin.  At this stage of growth the hair is in the Anagen, or growth phase of  its  cycle and can be treated much more efficiently.

All hair grows in cycles.  There is the Anagen phase, or “growth cycle”, the Catagen phase or “transition cycle” and  the Telogen phase or the “resting cycle”.  All hair on our bodies goes through the three follicle cycles.  How long  each hair is in the each phase depends on where it is on our bodies.  For example:  hairs on our scalp stay in the  Anagen phase longer than hairs on our arms.  That is why hair on the scalp can grow longer.

As this procedure does not puncture the skin, you will not feel the probe being inserted in to the hair follicle.  You will  feel a small sting or pinch sensation when the pulse of heat is directed into the base of the follicle.  The amount of  heat used depends upon the strength of the hair and the sensitivity of the skin.  There are topical anesthetics that be  used to help with the discomfort.

Depending on the area being treated, there may be a small amount of redness and or edema (swelling), however it  should go away within a few hours.  The severity of the side effects may decrease with subsequent treatments as the skin will become adjusted and not react as much.

Definitely not!  If the Electrologist is skillful, properly trained and licensed your skin will be smoother and softer once  the hairs have stopped growing.

YES!!!  Once I have destroyed the nourishment to the hair follicle that hair follicle can no longer produce a hair.

No.  The amount of current is infinitesimally small and poses no hazard.
